This morning I was going through some of my memory verses and I came across Psalms 20:7. It says, "some trust in chariots, and some in horses but we trust in the name of the Lord our God."
This got me to thinking about my journey as a church planter.
As my team and I continue down this road of church planting, its going to be easy for us to put our trust in other things, rather than Jesus.
I can put my trust in my own ability (chariot), or what I have (horses), or what I can do, or my whatever, you fill in the blank. Let's be honest its easy to fake spirituallity, and to leave Jesus out of the entire equation. The more we don't make our home in Jesus the more we begin to put our trust in other things. I've been there before in my preaching. It sounds like this..."well I know I'm a pretty good communicator, I've got a ton of energy and passion, I can make people laugh from time to time, so I don't really need to trust Jesus with this sermon, I've got this." It's not like it happens over night either, its a slow progression over time.
So this Monday morning, let's make it a commitment to not simply just trust in our abilities, talents, what we have, what we can do, our personality, our wit, our good looks, etc. Thinking about the team of people that God has brought together to plant Velocity Church, its an amazing team with incredible talent, however God's given us these talents and abilities to use for HIS glory. Trusting in ourselves alone is going to leave us frustrated and empty.
May we not simply trust in what we have and can do (chariots and horses) but may we trust in the name of the LORD OUR GOD!!
He is our KING, our SAVIOR, the AUTHOR OF SALVATION, our EVERYTHING!!
Its HIS CHURCH, He's gonna BUILD IT....may our trust be in HIM!!
