Jesus and the Church

In the Gospel of Matthew, Jesus looks at Peter and says, "you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of Hades shall not overpower it."

Thinking through that verse about the Church and Jesus' role in the church.

5 Things Stand Out!!

Jesus Builds the Church
He makes no bones about it, "I will build the church"

Jesus Owns the Church
He calls the church "my church" - its his, he died for it, he owns it

The Church is meant to be growing
If Jesus is building the church, then the church should be growing...right?

The Church that is growing will face opposition
So there is a battle going on between the church and the gates of Hades.  A growing church will always face opposition from the enemy.  Its when there is no opposition that you might want to worry!

The Church that Jesus builds is unstoppable
Jesus + nothing = Everything.  With Jesus all things are possible.  There is nothing like the church when she is running on all cylinders....she's unstoppable.
